Paul Taylor

Paul specialises in “cyber in the boardroom”, advising and training boards and executive teams on a global scale. Formerly Lead Partner for Cyber Security at KPMG UK Paul has three decades of industry experience. Paul led a team of 250 cyber professionals covering the spectrum from penetration testing, through strategy to incident response.​ 

His previous experience has seen him assume the role of Deputy Managing Director at AWE PLC, responsible for providing the Atomic Weapons Establishment Board and UK Ministry of Defence with assurance of delivery of the c£1Bn pa nuclear warhead programme.​

He also served as the Director General of Technology and Chief Information Officer in a small international UK Government Department, where he was a member of both ExCo and the main board. In this role Paul carried the responsibility for technical operations worldwide and for the development and protection of the capabilities to conduct them.​

Formerly Director General of Strategic Technologies and then Director General of Equipment in the Ministry of Defence he was the Senior Responsible Owner for the UK’s Nuclear Deterrent. This helped him develop numerous skills as Paul had responsibility for the Defence equipment programme, and for delivery of Urgent Operational requirements to British Forces in Iraq and Afghanistan.​

Paul’s experience saw him also become First Chief Executive of the Defence Science and Technology Laboratory (DSTL). The post carried responsibility for all elements of defence research and the 3,500 staff that were retained within government following the split of MOD R&D activities into QinetiQ and DSTL. He was also Director of Chemical & Biological Defence at Porton Down.

  • Elected a Fellow of the Royal Academy of Engineering in 2013.
  • Awarded a CBE in King Charles III’s first New Year’s Honours list.
  • Serves as a non-executive Director on the Defence Technology and Innovation Board in the MoD.
